The committee’s task has been to analyze and report on the current status of wastewater treatment on the island, potential impacts on groundwater and nearshore waters, possible threats to the current system in the future, and possible alternatives to the existing wastewater treatment process in the future. It began work in 2016, and has completed numerous studies and reports for the panel, links below. Currently, the committee is working with the county on funding for the next phase of research, which will develop a more detailed design of a proposed collection system to eventually connect to the existing City of Sanibel system for future wastewater processing.
