Sea Level Rise & Resiliency

Linda Laird, chair

Following a 2017 public meeting on sea level rise, a panel committee was formed to gather facts and develop baseline knowledge on its potential impact to the island. Adopting the adaptation planning model developed by the state, the committee and its consultants have developed a vulnerability analysis for Captiva and are continuing work on alternatives to address potential inundation scenarios. In 2020, the committee expanded its scope to include stormwater management, as nuisance flooding issues continued to increase and the issue’s connection to sea level rise and increased storminess became apparent. Since then, stormwater management has been given its own committee.
